28 Day Prescribing
In line with national prescribing guidelines and local Clinical Commissioning Group recommendations, we are now prescribing for a maximum of 28 days at a time (exceptions apply e.g. holidays). This has been proven to reduce wastage of medicines (£100 million annually) by 15% where this has already been implemented in other parts of the country. The majority of prescriptions have already been for 28 days for some years. As a Practice we are committed to following these recommendations and hope that you will understand the reasoning behind this policy.
We have offered remote medication delivery for some years, but the current coronavirus situation means that the volume of medication using this method has suddenly substantially increased. We have been overwhelmed with community support to help manage this and thank everyone for their efforts keeping medication supplies running and supporting social distancing / shielding / isolation.
Medication is sent out on Mondays and Thursdays.
Requests can be received by sending your completed green repeat request slip back with the delivery service; fax (01223 872741) or on line (website, NHS app, or patient access). The NHS deems phone requests unsafe other than in a dire emergency.
We need adequate time in which to turn a medication request into a bagged prescription; we routinely manage this in 48 hours but do occasionally run behind. Our dispensers are doing their best and are working extra hours but demand is unprecedented at present. Please #BeKind and allow AT LEAST 2 clear working days. We will try and respond to urgent requests and do our best to rectify any issues but CANNOT promise to solve any disorganisation on your part!
If your medication is either a controlled drug or something that must remain at fridge temperature, then this must be arranged separately and may not be possible.
This service is primarily for patients who need regular medication. Anyone who has a regular prescription needs to advise us of their payment exemption details. For those in relevant age groups this is clear; anyone else should advise us of relevant details – please note exemptions for chronic diseases do need to be renewed! Exceptionally we can accept a cheque in advance of sending medication if you agree this with us in advance.
Village distribution points – ONLY to get medication to our resident village patients!
Any queries where medication is or will be sent; contact the surgery initially.
